Karrie Weaver
With nearly three decades of experience in corporate and law firm environments, Karrie Weaver is a patent and intellectual property attorney who also regularly advises on trademarks, trade secret, copyrights, and licensing agreements. Ms. Weaver is often a key counsellor for innovative patent matters—with particular strengths in biochemical, mechanical and design patents. Clients come to her with real-time needs relating to new technologies, patents, trademarks and trade secret law. Ms. Weaver is often called upon to advise on how to evaluate, protect and most effectively legally deploy intellectual property as well as to assist with the management of IP portfolios.
As a former in-house lawyer at General Mills and a biotech start-up, Ms. Weaver takes a pragmatic approach to address clients’ most critical needs: actively advising clients seeking to leverage and structure their IP assets—domestically and globally, or to negotiate and resolve log-jam disputes. In additional to licensing, copyright, trade secret and other related concerns, Ms. Weaver is a trusted adviser, especially well-versed on patents and trademarks, who seeks to be pro-active and responsive:
- Patents. Ms. Weaver’s patent drafting, prosecution, and portfolio management experience spans subject matter including biotechnology, life sciences, polymer composites, food science, medical device, coating technologies, chemical arts, mechanical arts, and design patents. Ms. Weaver has assisted companies ranging from start-ups to multinationals. Her goal is always to help our clients build and maximize intellectual property portfolios that align with their business and technology objectives.
- Trademarks. Ms. Weaver’s trademark practice includes all aspects of the selection, clearance, and registration of new brands. Her areas of focus include preparation of trademark clearance and availability opinions, preparation and prosecution of trademark applications, and management of global trademark portfolios. She has handled trademark matters for clients conducting business across industries and fields, including a number of consumer-facing and business-to-business ventures, e.g., medical device, technology research services, food and beverage, consumer products, data management, retail goods and services, financial services, jewelry, material additives, advertising and marketing, telecommunications, pet products, games, education, software, and cosmetics.
Ms. Weaver’s charitable and civic activities include serving as a local chief election inspector. In her free time, Ms. Weaver is an active Masters swimmer and outdoor enthusiast.
